ABS – Staplehurst

As a leading independent garage, Jack Henry Service Centre covers a comprehensive range of diagnostic, repair, and replacement services, and this includes ABS – a vital safety feature on vehicles for many years.

ABS is short for Anti-Lock Braking System, and prevents wheels from locking up under heavy braking or braking on slippery surfaces. The system is designed to maintain wheel rotation rather than locking up, giving drivers better steering control and stability when needed most, and is a major contributor towards reducing skids, accidents, and collisions. ABS works by using sensors to monitor each wheel’s rotational speed and recognises when one wheel’s speed decreases significantly compared to others, which indicates a potential lock-up. Several times per second, the system rapidly applies and releases the brakes on individual or multiple wheels to prevent this, and drivers can feel a pulsing or vibration through the brake pedal when this occurs.

If the sensors or other components in the system fail, warning lamps will appear on the dash to indicate there is a fault, and it is crucial that this is rectified at the earliest opportunity by a qualified and experienced garage, such as Jack Henry Service Centre. At our workshop in Staplehurst, Maidstone, we have extensive diagnostics and other sophisticated equipment capable of detecting ABS faults, and skilled technicians able to carry out all necessary work to ensure vehicles with ABS issues are quickly returned to the road in a safe condition.
